4 Things You Must See When You Visit Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is greatly underestimated when it comes to sightseeing and activities. Find out some of our favourite things about the Emirate below…

Marble domes, private islands, the immense (it really is!) Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque – there is an endless list of reasons beyond dune bashing to visit the sparkling capital city that is Abu Dhabi.

From the serene waterfront to the glittering skyscrapers, Abu Dhabi offers visitors an experience like no other. Take a peaceful stroll through one of the two thousand glorious parks and green spaces, leave the world behind as you relax on the sweeps on sun kissed sands, or experience the thrill of a Formula One track.

With so much to see and do, it is difficult to dwindle down the four best things about this multi-faceted location.

But we’ve done it…

Emirates Palace Hotel

This solitary splendour deserves a place at the top of our “must-see” list. Sitting above the sea and surrounded by flawless gardens, the sheer size (1km in length, 114 domes, 140 elevators…you get the picture) of this magnificent building is enough to make your jaws drop!

Emirates Palace Hotel is believed to have been the most expensive ever built, and even features the world’s first gold vending machine (in the lobby), which dispenses over three hundred pure-gold products. As a visitor, you can enjoy a meal at one of the numerous restaurants or pop in for a sumptuous afternoon tea – although, as you would expect, you will need make a reservation in advance.

Top Tip: If a fleeting visit isn’t enough, the hotel offers day passes for those of you who want a holiday within a holiday.

Aldar HQ 1

Aldar HQ Building

As you drive into Abu Dhabi along the main Dubai highway, you cannot miss the eye-catching Aldar HQ building, headquarters of the Aldar property group.

Known as the world’s first circular skyscraper, you will be hard pressed to find a landmark like this anywhere else. Its design is simply amazing – like a giant magnifying glass, crisscrossed with a diagonal grid of steel supports. Everyone who visits Abu Dhabi should take a closer look.

Top Tip: Take a walk into the building’s lobby for a glimpse of its airy interior. With hardly any internal columns, you will be surprised at how spacious it is inside!

Ferrari World

As the first ever Ferrari-branded theme park in the world, you just can’t visit Abu Dhabi without making a pit stop at Yas Island’s Ferrari World.

Open 365 days a year, this indoor, temperature-controlled family attraction is home to the world’s fastest roller coaster, state-of-the-art simulators, live entertainment shows and an impressive treasure of racing memorabilia. With a selection of restaurants that celebrate authentic Italian culinary traditions, this is the place to live the ultimate Ferrari experience.

Top Tip: Set aside a good amount of time for this attraction – it’s well worth a few visits!

Capital Gate

Midtown Abu Dhabi and Capital Gate

Head about 12km south of the Corniche and you’ll come across Midtown Abu Dhabi. This bustling area features Zayed Sports City complex (home to Abu Dhabi’s test cricket ground, international tennis centre and numerous other sporting facilities), the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and, most famously, the mind-bogglingly weird and wonderful Capital Gate skyscraper. This whopping, 160m tower holds a place in the Guinness World Records as the world’s most tilted tower (its incline is four times that of the famous Italian landmark) and is popularly known as the Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi.

Top Tip: Take your camera. This building is so steeply tilted that it looks like it’s on the verge of toppling over.
